The first mile can generate the first smile.

Today I was revisiting “The Messy Middle” and one of the chapters caught my attention as it mentions that the first mile of any product is often the most neglected part of the product. That’s absolutely true if you think deeply about it. Product managers totally forget about their users’ onboarding experience. The reason behind that might be that the product managers themselves are already using their products at an advanced stage and can’t empathize enough with first-time users who know absolutely nothing about the product.

How can this be changed so that everybody starts offering and having better product onboarding experiences — the so-called first miles — and generate a big first smile into the faces of users?
